Investing and Financial Literacy for Teens in Dubai

A four-week financial literacy and investing programme for students aged 14 to 20 at the Dubai AI Campus in DIFC. Teams manage a simulated AED 100,000 portfolio across stocks, real Dubai property listings and gold, then defend their strategy on Demo Day. No real money is invested at any point.

What the course actually teaches

The Young Investor is a four-week programme for students aged 14 to 20, built around one question: what is this thing worth, and why? Teams work through stocks, property and gold, then put the three together into a portfolio they have to explain out loud.

It runs on four Saturdays, 13:30 to 15:30, at the Dubai AI Campus on Gate Avenue in DIFC, from Saturday 9 January to Saturday 30 January 2027. Demo Day follows on Friday 5 February. Tuition is AED 3,000 for the full programme, paid in full.

This is the financial literacy part of a teenager's education that a school timetable rarely has room for: how a business makes money, what rent and costs do to a property return, why investors hold gold at all, and how to hold three very different things without pretending the risk has gone away.

No real money, at any point

Each team starts with AED 100,000 in simulated money. Stocks and gold are traded on a simulated account from Century Financial, and property is chosen from real Dubai listings and tracked on the class scoreboard. Each team decides how to divide the AED 100,000 between the three.

Nothing is deposited, nothing is at risk, and parents never open or fund an account for the programme. That matters for a family deciding whether a teenager is ready for this: there is no way for a student to lose real money here, and no way for the programme to become a sales channel.

The programme is educational. Nothing in it is investment or financial advice, for students or for parents.

The four Saturdays, week by week

Each week takes one asset class, then the last session pulls them together before Demo Day.

  • Week 1, stocks: how a business makes money, and first trades on a demo account.
  • Week 2, property: rent, costs and returns on real Dubai listings.
  • Week 3, gold and diversification: why investors hold gold, and how to balance all three.
  • Week 4, portfolio review: teams refine their portfolio and prepare for Demo Day.
  • Demo Day, Friday 5 February: teams present their strategy and defend their portfolio to senior leaders from the finance industry.

Who teaches it, and who it is built with

The programme is led by Steven Major from day one to Demo Day. It is built with Century Financial, a UAE broker with more than 35 years in trading and investing across global markets, whose simulated trading account the students use. MICS, a tax consultancy based in DIFC, co-created the programme.

The room is not a trading floor and the teaching is not a lecture on charts. Students are asked what they think a company is worth, why, and what would prove them wrong, which is the same conversation a professional investor has, at a level a 14 to 20 year old can hold.

Demo Day, and what comes after

Demo Day is held at Century Financial's office in Emaar Square. Each team presents its strategy and defends its portfolio in front of senior leaders from the finance industry, which is a different experience from presenting to a teacher.

After the programme, 5 internships in finance are offered to the top students of the cohort, selected on their work. Not every student gets one. The rest of the cohort still leaves with a portfolio they built and can explain, a working understanding of risk, diversification and long-term investing, and experience with a trading platform, real Dubai property listings and the gold market.
